Comfort Keepers Mission
Our mission is to provide our clients with the highest level of quality of life that is achievable. We shall treat each of our clients with the respect and dignity they deserve, as though we were caring for a member of our own family.
The special people who deliver our unique brand of in-home senior care (We call them Comfort Keepers®.) are carefully selected, screened, and trained to provide professional, compassionate care.
Longtime area residents Russell and Leslie Knopp opened Comfort Keepers of Traverse City, Michigan, in 2005 to serve the growing senior population of Traverse City, Charlevoix, Petoskey, Gaylord and the surrounding areas of northwest Michigan. They discovered Comfort Keepers through a friend who owns another Comfort Keepers franchise.
Back in the 1960’s, when I was thirteen years old, my grandmother fell and became a paraplegic. Her doctors told the family that she would need to go to a nursing home and that she had about 6 months to live. My mother and her siblings, who all lived in Toledo, Ohio, made the decision to bring her back to her own home instead, where the family cared for her – for the next nine years! Between all of the children, their spouses and grandchildren, our family provided total care, around the clock. When I was big enough, I started helping, and through college, I often worked the night shift. My grandmother was able to participate in family events, see her grandchildren grow up, and overall enjoy a great quality of life in her elder years. Having seen first-hand what is possible with in-home care, I related to the mission of Comfort Keepers from the moment I heard about it. Today, many families don’t have the luxury of living close together, and need help that can be trusted like family to care for their loved ones. Providing this support to families across northern Michigan is our passion, and knowing we do something of great value is why we own a Comfort Keepers franchise. I have enjoyed putting my background in business, marketing and management to work building our franchise into a winner of local, statewide and national awards for quality.
On the other end of the spectrum, my extended family has always been spread out across the country; from Seattle to Los Angeles to Chicago, none of my grandparents’ children or grandchildren lived in the same place. When disabilities caused by my grandmother’s diabetes made it necessary for her to move from the family farm, having no other options, my mother and her siblings relocated my grandmother to a nursing home near my aunt in Chicago. Back then, companies like Comfort Keepers didn’t exist. My grandmother passed away in less than six months, and was very sad in her final days. I have seen how this broke my mother’s heart, and I love helping families that don’t have the option of providing all the needed care themselves because of location or other obligations. Everyone on our team gets great satisfaction from helping families during difficult times. I started my career as a teacher, and I am passionate about providing excellent training, resources and support to our amazing caregivers. It gives me great joy to know that every single day, we make a difference.
Meet Our Care Coordination Team
Interactive Caregiving™ is based on four primary pillars, which Comfort Keepers leverage to care for, engage, and interact with our clients:
- An active senior mind promotes independence, better mental and physical health, happiness, and a longer life.
- A physically active senior maintains strength and independence, lessening or delaying the effects of aging.
- A well-nourished senior is more energetic, both physically and mentally.
- A safe senior lives in an environment that reduces the likelihood of accidents and promotes timely response when illness or accidents occur.
With our Interactive Caregiving approach, we are able to raise seniors’ quality of life to a much higher level than typical in-home care providers.
