Carrie Brown

Quality Assurance Manager/Client Care Coordinator

“Human behavior has always intrigued me. I enjoy meeting new people, helping others, learning about different processes and striving to make a difference in peoples’ lives.”

Carrie has been with Comfort Keepers for over five years and has a degree in social work. As the Quality Assurance and Client Care Coordinator Carrie oversees clients and their needs in the home by performing assessments, continually updating their plan-of-care and handling any coordination they may need with outside agencies. Additionally, Carrie works with a variety of government and non-profit agencies that Comfort Keepers contracts with. In addition to spending time with her fur baby, Walter, and her family, she enjoys skiing, scrapbooking, crafting and music concerts. Exploring the hidden gems of Northern Michigan whether it be taking a Sunday drive, trying a new restaurant, taking a hike along the lakeshore, or adventuring on the water, there is no greater place to live than Northern Michigan!

Bethany Ostlund

Operations Manager

“I want to make Comfort Keepers a great employer and a place people enjoy working.”

Bethany has been with Comfort Keepers for almost 10 years and chose to work here in order to make a difference in the community.  Previously, Bethany worked as a teacher and has a degree in education. As Operations Manager, Bethany oversees the day-to-day flow of Comfort Keepers, making sure that clients and staff have the best experience possible. Volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spending time with her basset hound, Sophie, as well as her three nephews and one niece is what fulfills Bethany in her free time. Gardening, kayaking, snowshoeing, boating and going to festivals are also hobbies.

Diana Colbath

Delegated Service Aide/ Supervisor Quality Care Coach/ CPR Instructor

Diana has been with Comfort Keepers for over 5 years. She took her original Nurse’s Aide training at the age of 17 while still in high school. She worked weekends until she graduated then full time after that. For a year Diana worked midnights in a small hospital ER in Indiana, then back to Grand Rapids and nursing homes there. She took some time off and worked other jobs before going to Meadowbrook around 1993. In 2008 Diana started at CK part time, loved the company and job so much that she gave up her full time printing job to go full time with CK. She has never regretted making that change.

Diana enjoys making a difference in people’s lives and that she can help our seniors stay home and be safe, and give their loved ones/families peace of mind. She loves the smiles and hugs when she walks into clients doors. The supervisory part of her job is what she enjoys as well. She really enjoys knowing that she is helping our caregivers to be the best that they can be. She is excellent at teaching them new ways to do their jobs and enjoys watching our caregivers grow. 
Janice Vipond

Director of Client Services

“I can go home every night and say that I changed the world; one senior and one family at a time.”

Janice has been with Comfort Keepers since 2005. She conducts the initial in-home assessments to assist our clients and families develop an ongoing plan to increase quality of life and independence.  She also works with other agencies and medical providers to provide ongoing client, family, and caregiver support, as care evolves.   Janice has twenty years of experience serving seniors, specializing in memory care, end-of-life care and coordination of care. Originally Janice took the job with Comfort Keepers because when she met Leslie she could feel the passion she had for serving seniors. Being a mom to her daughter is her greatest joy. She also likes playing chess and poker, but loves being on or in the water, four-wheeling, camping and nature walks.

Teresa Ellis

Service Coordinator

“It feels good that every day we are helping so many seniors in our communities and that the work we all do makes a difference.”

Teresa has been with Comfort Keepers for over four years. Previously, she worked in the staffing industry and is able to use those same skills at Comfort Keepers, in a position she finds very fulfilling. Teresa works with clients to make sure all of their needs are met and they have a consistent person to call. Additionally, she ensures that the caregivers have the tools to implement their clients’ plan-of-care. She handles scheduling issues, as well. She has a degree from Northwestern Michigan College and has lived in Northern Michigan since 1999. Teresa loves it here, but also enjoys visiting family in Florida. Her son, Christian is 15 years-old. 

Amy Scott

Administrator

“I enjoy being able to work behind the scenes to ensure that things run smoothly for clients and caregivers.

Amy started working with Comfort Keepers full-time in 2013, but has helped with special projects since it opened in Traverse City. Her main functions are processing payroll and billing clients, insurances and agencies, but she supports the staff in many ways. Enabling caregivers to focus on doing what they do best - providing quality, caring service, gives her purpose. Amy truly appreciates being part of such an incredible company with so many wonderful people. With her husband being in the US Coast Guard, she has moved all over the US and has held a variety of positions bringing a unique background and base of knowledge to her position. Amy attended Northwestern Michigan College in the Accounting program and graduated from Pastry Arts school. She loves to bake!

Melanie Martell

Client Care Manager

“I am very passionate in overseeing the highest level of quality care that our seniors deserve.”

Melanie has a background in sales and marketing, as well as, admissions in skilled nursing homes, but Comfort Keepers is lucky to have had her for over five years! As the Client Care Manager, Melanie performs in-home assessments, plan of care updates, and coordination of all aspects of client care. Melanie is blessed and happily active with her two beautiful daughters. Kayaking, hiking, running, yoga and being outdoors are some of her favorite things to do. Additionally, she loves to watch football!

Elizabeth “Libby” Struik, LMSW

Human Resources Assistant and Caregiver Support

“I deeply believe in the mission of keeping people in their homes as long as possible, plus I love my coworkers and working for Russ and Leslie!”

A native of Grand Rapids and a frequent visitor to Beaver Island, Libby relocated to northern Michigan after working in Asheville, North Carolina in children’s mental health and human resources. Libby has degrees in journalism and social work. In her role as human resources assistant, Libby works on all aspects of hiring and retention, especially supporting our caregivers. Libby loves everything about northern Michigan, especially the change of seasons and all the activities that go along with that! She has also volunteered in various bereavement services and with Big Brother Big Sister.   Having personal experience as a family caregiver made her even more excited to have joined the Comfort Keepers team and assist in providing the best care possible.

Deidra Charnes, MSA, SHRM-CP

Human Resources Director

“I love seeing the positive impact great hiring makes on our clients.”

Deidra is a certified HR professional through the Society of Human Resources (SHRM-CP) as well as holding an MSA in Human Resource Administration and a degree in communication. Deidra works on recruitment, hiring, onboarding, as well as employee retention, management and strategic planning.

Deidra works for Comfort Keepers so that she can do the work she loves while also getting the emotional reward of seeing the positive impact great hiring makes on our clients. Camping with her two small children and two large dogs makes her happy. Additionally, her whole family loves to take advantage of the water: boating, fishing and swimming are favorites!

Missy Shively

On-Call/Weekend Service Coordinator

“I choose to work for Comfort Keepers because everyone in and out of the office works extremely hard every day to provide the very best care for our clients that we can. I have never worked for another employer who cares so much about the success of their employees.”

Missy is the On-Call/Weekend Service Coordinator and has been with Comfort Keepers since May 2016. Her job is to handle any changes needed by clients or caregivers that may occur over the weekend. She also provides support to the caregivers regarding the care plans during this time. Before she came to Comfort Keepers she worked as a CNA in a nursing home setting and also as part of the administrative team in another home health care agency. While working as a CNA she worked primarily with dementia residents; this taught her the most about what it really means to work in the health care field.  Missy is a new mom to a beautiful little girl and loving every minute of it! Her family consists of her husband, her daughter, and her pug, Clyde. She loves to read and is enjoying learning how to cook. Missy’s favorite part about living in northern Michigan is the fall color season; there is nowhere as beautiful as the shores of the Great Lakes with the fall colors in the background!

Dee Keil

Territory Manager, Northern Territory

Dee chose to work at Comfort Keepers after watching the caregivers provide care in an assisted living setting. Seeing how the administrators truly cared about the clients and staff inspired her to work in home care.  She previously worked for 17 years in assisted living, with the past 11 years as a director. As Territory Manager for the northern region, Dee oversees scheduling, in-home client assessments, care plan development and caregiver supervision. For leisure, she loves to spend time in the outdoors: fishing, camping, and mushroom hunting. Her four children and soon-to-be five grandchildren bring her great joy and lots of fun!

Cindy Post-Byron, RN, CDP, CLNC

Director of Nursing

“Home healthcare is the best field of all because I get to see people in their homes and work on their entire situation, not just their medical needs.”

After serving seniors in retirement communities and other settings, Cindy chose to work at Comfort Keepers because she loves helping seniors stay safe in their homes. Making a difference in someone’s life is what she finds most rewarding. She has extensive experience in the medical field and has passed that nurturing spirit on to her three children who have all worked as caregivers. As the Director of Nursing, Cindy oversees nursing staff, clients with more complicated medical needs and special projects. Along with her husband, Keith, she has several pets and enjoys the outdoors. Kayaking, walking her dogs, listening to the sounds of nature, these are the things that make her feel happy and relaxed.

Stephanie Porfert

Service Coordinator

“Every day presents an opportunity to make a difference. My clients and coworkers make every day special.”

Stephanie is honored to play a part in making sure our clients have the greatest experience possible. After interning with a hospice agency and working in various administrative positions, she knew she wanted to focus on daily interaction with people in the healthcare field. As a service coordinator, she assures that clients and caregivers have a point of contact to deal with any issues that may come up, especially scheduling. Making sure that caregivers understand their clients’ care plan is of utmost importance. Stephanie has three kids and three cats and enjoys anything that ends in laughter! As a New York-native, Stephanie is loving the Northern Michigan lifestyle. After having traveled extensively, this is her favorite geographical location.

Joanie Tress

Receptionist

“My main goal is to help those in need; it’s what I love to do.”

Joanie is a people-person and being able to be part of a team to make seniors’ lives more manageable is very rewarding! Joanie has a great deal of customer service experience and it truly shows in her work. As the front-desk receptionist, Joanie is the first point of contact for clients, caregivers and potential clients; she ensures that everyone who calls or visits has a pleasant experience. Being married for over 30 years, her two children and three grandchildren are a great joy to her and her husband. Boating, swimming, camping, snowmobiling, pretty much anything outdoors makes her happy. She also loves to play euchre, but family time is the best!

Toni Cone

Community Liaison/Communication Director

“I love spreading the word about Comfort Keepers! Helping communities and professionals see the value of in-home care is very rewarding.”

Toni lives in Petoskey and works to spread the word about Comfort Keepers in the north, through contact with community partners, local chambers and community events. Additionally, she works with Russ and Leslie on other communication projects, internal and external. She has a degree in business and a degree in communication. Family life keeps her busy and she spends most of her time with her husband, Chip and twins, Luke and Sophie. When she does have free time, she enjoys snowshoeing, hiking, reading and writing.

Gabrielle Basha, RN, BSN

Home Health Care Nurse

“I love being able follow my patients’ care long-term. Taking care of my grandfather at home helped me realize how important it is to stay in one’s home.”

Gabrielle has always been interested in homecare and has clinical experience in all different areas of nursing. She has degrees from MSU and Oakland University and is certified BLS and ACLS, as well as specializing in EKG interpretation. As a nurse at Comfort Keepers she visits clients in their homes providing the care and assessments that they need. Being new to Traverse City from downstate, she already loves it here.  In her spare time she hangs out with her cat, Edie, and two dogs, Bella and Rylee. Gabrielle also likes to spend time reading and painting. Hiking and adventuring around to new places in northern Michigan is also great!

Linda Mack, LPN

Trainer

“I really enjoy working with the senior population. My goal each day is to make someone smile!”

Linda has been with Comfort Keepers since August 2014.  In addition to nursing, Linda’s role focuses on hands on training with our caregivers. Linda has a vast amount of experience in the medical field, being an active LPN since 1972; she has worked in a hospital setting in a variety of departments and served as an admissions coordinator at skilled nursing facilities.  When she is not helping clients and caregivers she is busy with her three kids, seven grandchildren, two horses, two dogs and one cat! She loves to be in the woods horseback riding and hunting with her son.
